Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

I finished reading glass sword recently, and I have some things to say about it. Goodreads only lets you type in a short review, So I have to adjust to that. Well, I was expecting to like this books more, It has a very beautiful cover and I liked the plot, or where it seemed to be going. I will give an overview of what it is about. SO in this world there's the elite and the low class. Silvers are the elite and reds, the normal ones are treated as garbage. Naturally, the Silvers oppress reds because they have magic abilities or powers, call them what you want. Our main character is Mare Barrow. Mare is a carefree girl, who likes to do things wihtout thinking about them before. She has been a thief for some time now, her family poses some difficulties such as, having a crippled dad , and a missing family member, Shade. Her family isn't too involved in the story. But her sister does play a role in determining how she ends up at the castle.
Mare also has a very close friend from childhood, Kilorn. Teenagers get ordered to fight at the front of the war each year and this time Kilorn gets chosen. There's also rumors of a group of rebels "The Scarlet Guard" these rebels try to overthrow the cruel ruling of King Tiberias. Farley is their leader, and she offers to save Kilorn from conscription in exchange for a huge amount of money. So Mare and Gisa ,her little sister head to a naerby city where the silvers reside, and also royalty. While they're here gisa grabs a Silver's possession and later finds out it is Prince Cal, Gisa gets her hand cut off and Mare gets taken to the palace. So the book keeps telling mare's story as she trains in the castle after she finds out she's a rare type of Red which happens to have powers, something not common among them. We are introduced to a set of new characters that share time with Mare such as Lucas, Julian, Queen Elara, King Tiberias, and Maven their younger son. Mare develops feeling for Maven's brother and also for Maven. I don't enjoy love triangles really. And I didn't like it in the first book. I think it was unnecessary. Then also at the end, Maven turns out to be conspiring an evil plan with his mother, bohoo big surprise. And queen Elara, manipulates Cal to kill his father. After which they get taken to prison cells to await their execution, but mare and Cal manage to run out last-minute and we find out Shade Isn't dead. That's where the first book ends.

So another thing about the story is It's too similar to other books, and It has things that are already too used. I didn't like that. What I did enjoy is , the abilities everyone has, There's diversity, so you have magnetrons, stoneskins, and it gets better in the second book, where more characters with interesting abilities enter the arena. It has action. Sometimes I didn't like that , I just wanted to know what would happen next but the author would focus on something else instead , I hate when they do that, I remember it happened to me in Strange the dreamer too, like , you're reading about one character and Laini would just write a whole chapter about something entirely
