Year: 2013
Author: Sarah J. Maas
I started reading this series last year and couldn't get around to the second installment. A very basic book with a story that has magic, romantic and surprise elements to it. We follow our MC Celaena Sardothien who is an assasin and on the first book she becomes the king's champion and competes to win that place. In the second book, crown of midnight which I'm currently listenting to the main plot is Archer Finn, her next target. But the entire book she avoids killing him. Then she gets betrayed by her love interest Chaol Westfall who happens to be Dorian Havilliard's bestie (the prince) . By the end of the book we're finding out Dorian has magical powers that have remained hidden so far. Celaena's friend, Nehemia gets murdered because Chaol kept info. from her so she explodes and lashes out at him which causes her temporal inprisonment. Dorian has also been looking up at genealogy scripts. So I can see how Sarah. J Maas tries to make a fantasy scenery for this book, the castle, livery, system, is supposed to go towards an entirely magical result. But it feels very light, like it's not fantasy with actual potential. I mean this is ok as a filler, sort of, If you're bored and have interest in it. But again, It's not one of my favorites. I know it's got the female heroin, the romance, action, suspense, mythical creatures, secrets. But for some reason it didn't reach my heart.
